I hope everyone is staying healthy and safe! I want to thank all of you who have updated me on how things are going at home and how your child is doing. I also appreciate all of the feedback I've gotten so that I can modify things to best support the academic needs of your child.

I hope all is well with you and your family during this uncertain time. The fluidity of this epidemic is one that can cause fear and angst. At this time, we must pull together, follow the guidelines that have been implemented, and we will get through this troubled time together.
As a district and school community, we are working diligently to provide students and families with engagement activities to keep them in a school-like routine. I will check-in with students and families weekely. The "check-in" is to make sure we reach all of our families. Please take time to respond back when you receive their communication. Our goal is to maintain connections with our students and support their academic, social, and emotional well-being.

~We are finishing our unit on Community Workers unit as we complete our interviews this week. Students will draft their biographies in class, which will then be sent home to be revised and published as a homework project. Directions will be sent home this week. on what the final published biography should look like.
~We are continuing our First Thanksgiving/Colonial Times unit.
~We are also continuing to write several different types of poetry that we'll be sharing with you on Thursday, December 5 at our Poetry reading.
~We are sending our Flat Selves out in the mail this week. Thank you to those of you that have already sent the addresses and stamps.
*There will be a poetry reading by the students on Thursday, December 5th at 1:15. We originally planned on this being on Friday, December 6th, however, there is NO SCHOOL for students on this day because it is a Teacher Work Day.
*Also, Miss Leedom's last day with us is also on Thursday, December 5th. She has done an AMAZING job and I know that she is ready for her own classroom! We will truly miss her! :(

This will continue in class until students have a rough draft of their biographies which will be edited by both a peer and a teacher before being sent home to revise and publish and return to school as a homework project. *Permission slips were sent home last Friday asking for $8.00 to be turned in for our In-School Field Trip. We'll have visitors from the Cranbrook Institute of Science do a presentation on States of Matter. The money is due this Friday, November 8th.
*This week we'll be talking about contractions and compound words. We'll finish reading our story FLAT STANLEY and answering comprehension questions. We'll also start tracing our bodies so that we can send our Flat Selves to visit friends and relatives. We, of course, we'll learn our new Wow Words and continue working on our new spelling words. In Reader's Workshop we are continuing to meet with our small groups to work comprehension strategies. In Writer's Workshop we will finish publishing our Personal Narratives on our Chromebooks. In social studies, we are starting a new unit on Community Workers and will be interviewing someone that works in the community.
This Friday, November 8 is our Wow Word Quiz and our Bi-Weekly Spelling Test.

*Permission slips were sent home last Friday asking for $8.00 to be turned in for our In-School Field Trip. We'll have visitors from the Cranbrook Institute of Science do a presentation on States of Matter. The money is due this Friday, November 8th.
*This week we'll be talking about contractions and compound words. We'll finish reading our story FLAT STANLEY and answering comprehension questions. We'll also start tracing our bodies so that we can send our Flat Selves to visit friends and relatives. We, of course, we'll learn our new Wow Words and continue working on our new spelling words. In Reader's Workshop we are continuing to meet with our small groups to work comprehension strategies. In Writer's Workshop we will finish publishing our Personal Narratives on our Chromebooks. In social studies, we are starting a new unit on Community Workers and will be interviewing someone that works in the community.
This Friday, November 8 is our Wow Word Quiz and our Bi-Weekly Spelling Test.

THIS WEEK...

*This Thursday, October 10 is our field trip to the Matthaei Botanical Gardens. We will be leaving school at about 9:00 and returning around 1:30. Please make sure to send your child with a bag lunch from home as we will be eating there. Unfortunately there is no room for chaperones to ride the bus, but you may meet us there, or follow the bus.
*This Friday, October 11 is BAGEL DAY! If your child would like to order a bagel, please have them bring their money in tomorrow, October 8.
*Also, this Friday is our WEBSTER WALK-A-THON! Please have your child wear BLUE.

We'll also be finishing our story called CLICK, CLACK, MOO and start reading FLAT STANLEY and answering comprehension questions. We, of course, we'll learn our new Wow Words and practice our spelling words using Hands-On spelling activities. We'll be doing a really cool social studies project with the FLAT STANLEY book. In Reader's Workshop we are continuing to meet with our small groups to work comprehension strategies. In Writer's Workshop we are starting to write our Personal Narratives. In science, we continue our study of plants and are talking about variables.
*Next week, October 16, 17 and 18th our Parent-Teacher conferences. There is a half day of school for students on Thursday and Friday, the 17th and 18th.

This week, we will be finishing our unit on nouns and do lessons on adjectives.
We will also practice putting words in alphabetical order.
We will be observing our bush bean seeds in our seed baggie gardens that are taped to our classrooms windows. We will talk about the needs and life cycle of a plant.
We'll be reading a story called CLICK, CLACK, MOO and working on story elements and comprehension strategies.
We are working on our new Wow Words this week and spelling lists. The WOW WORD quiz will be this Friday, October 4 and our next spelling test is on Friday, October 11.
Our Webster Walk-A-Thon will be on Friday, October 11.
